Odds Conversion Guide: Hong Kong, European & Malay Odds, and What "0.1" Means
For the same line, different bookmakers use different odds notations, and the numbers can look very different. Master the conversions and you can align outside lines with your own model's data.
In short: decimal odds = Hong Kong odds + 1, because Hong Kong odds are net profit only. HK 0.1 = decimal 1.10 ≈ 91% implied probability.
European Odds (Decimal)
The most intuitive: the odds are simply "how much you get back, stake plus winnings, if it hits." At odds of 1.10, staking 100 returns 110 (stake included). Sporta.AI uses European decimal odds on the site.
Take the reciprocal for the implied probability: 1 ÷ 1.10 ≈ 90.9%.
Hong Kong Odds
Hong Kong odds are a "pure profit multiplier" (excluding the stake). So they're always 1 less than European odds.
"0.100" = stake 1 to net 0.1 profit = European odds of 1.10. Don't mistake it for a losing payout.
Comparing the Three Formats
- European = Hong Kong + 1 (e.g. HK 0.1 → European 1.10)
- Implied probability = 1 ÷ European odds (e.g. 1.10 → about 90.9%)
- Malay odds: positive values behave like Hong Kong odds (the underdog side); negative values denote the favorite side (e.g. -0.90)
How to Align With Sporta.AI
When you see Hong Kong odds elsewhere, just add 1 to convert them to the European decimal odds shown on Sporta.AI, then use expected value (win probability × odds − 1) to judge whether the price is in your favor.
FAQ
Does "0.1" mean you lose money?
No. Hong Kong odds of 0.1 mean a 10% net profit (stake 100 to win 10), equal to European odds of 1.10 — low odds on a favorite, not a losing payout.
How do you get the probability from the odds?
Take the reciprocal of the European decimal odds. Odds of 2.00 → 50%, 1.50 → about 67%, 4.00 → 25%. That's the market's "implied" probability.
