Over/Under — also called totals or total goals betting — doesn't care who wins or loses. It only bets on whether the two teams' combined goals finish above or below a line. It's one of football's most popular markets because you don't have to pick a side, just judge whether it'll be a goal-fest or a tight, low-scoring affair. But the implied probabilities of Over and Under always add up to more than 100% — for example 52.6% plus 52.6% equals 105.2%. The excess is the bookmaker's margin. Two fixtures both expecting 2.8 goals can have very different shapes: an open end-to-end game versus a strong side grinding down a weak one, and each line's probability changes accordingly.
Why the Line Moves Before Kickoff
Lines are not fixed. Team-sheet announcements, injury news, weather — heavy rain and strong wind suppress goals — and one-sided money all move the line and the odds.
A typical sequence: a starting striker is ruled out and the market drops the line from 2.75 to 2.5. If your read was already correct before the news broke, the earlier price was the valuable one. Once the line has finished moving, the market has usually eaten that value.

First, averaging the last few scorelines. The sample is too small and it ignores opponent strength — a run of high-scoring games against weak sides tells you nothing about facing a well-organised defence.
